Sandbox

by Kayte

It’s supposed to rain most of this weekend, so we got outdoors early and made the most of the clear morning. Brody went for a bike ride while I took the kids for a nice walk. Then we all headed to the park for a little outdoor play.

CDS

We felt a little cooped up after the rainy weekend, so we met our Child Development Specialist (CDS) at the park for some sunny, outdoor therapy.

School Evaluation

by Kayte

Today it was Lola’s turn to go to “school” for her services assessment. We had the same group of evaluators, so it was nice for me to see some familiar faces, and for them to meet the other half of the Max-and-Lola duo. Lola’s evaluation was about 30 minutes shorter than Max’s. She had a much harder time focusing for two hours straight and was a bit overwhelmed. By the end she was just throwing the toys on the ground. The next step is our Individualized Education Program (IEP) meeting in March. There we find out the results of all the testing and see what the school district is offering in terms of preschool and therapy services. Big changes coming up!

Second Molar

by Kayte

Max is finally getting his last round of teeth: the second molars or two-year molars, which are closer to three-year at this point. His top-right molar poked through this past week. Just three teeth left to go and he’ll have a full set like Lola. IMG_2449.JPG

School Assessment

by Kayte

IMG_2451.JPG I took Max to “school” today for his assessment to see if he will qualify for continuing services through the school district. It was a long 2-1/2 hours of play-testing with a psychologist, OT, PT, phys ed, and speech. They asked him to do all sorts of physical activities (climb, run, kick, catch), mental activities (color, build, sort) and lots of speech (words, concepts, directions). Max is such a performer/please. He really tried so hard to focus and do everything they asked. But it was a long day. After that we met with the school nurse for a health assessment, vision screen and hearing test. It was a lot to pack in, but I’m glad we were able to do it all in one day since we have to make a second trip for Miss Lola in a couple weeks.
