January Roundup

by Kayte

I’m posting updates a little bit out of order, so I’ll try to note when there’s a new post.

This weather is more like it!

Chopsticks

by Kayte

Max was rocking the kiddie-chopsticks at lunch today. He didn’t even need us to show him how to use them. Mad fine-motor skills!

Too hot for January…even in SoCal.

Birdfeeders

by Kayte

The kids helped me fill and hang two birdfeeders in our backyard this past week. We really enjoy watching all the birds who come to eat.

Seussical the Musical

by Kayte

Max & Lola’s went on their second class field trip today to Seussical the Musical; a musical performance based on many different Dr. Seuss books. In preparation we have been reading Dr. Seuss like mad this past week. I even got to know some “new” books that I missed during my childhood. We all loved it. Max & Lola sat [mostly] attentively through the entire 90-minute performance, clapping and asking lots of questions.

Cool Bus!

Although the highlight of their day may have been the COOL BUS RIDE which shuttled us from the parking lot to the stage.

Don’t worry. Max is happy about Seussical; he’s not so happy about me trying to get him to pose for a picture.

Wild Boys

When Max gets together with his cousin Booker, Lola calls them the Wild Boys.

Bob Dylan

by Kayte

First of all, Max is obsessed with the guitar he got for Hanukkah. Actually, he’s obsessed with instruments in general. He bangs on our kiddie pianos, plays the Glockenspiel, and makes drums out of all sorts of toys. We went to a birthday party last month which had a two-man band, and ever since then Max & Lola have been role-playing as “Johnny” on guitar and “Matty” on drums.

Secondly, I’ve finally been able to convince the kids to listen to something other than the two children’s music CDs that have been on repeat in our van for the last year+. Hallelujah! They’re really interested in the concept of “musicians” and “bands” and trying to identify all the instruments being played. I thought we’d start with Brody’s favorite of all time: Bob Dylan. They love it. Brody found an old harmonica in the garage, and Max requested a strap for his guitar so he could play both at the same time just like Dylan.

Light Sabers

by Kayte

Max & Lola scored big at the dentist today. Not only did they get the usual stickers and balloons, but they also got super special light sabers! Max asked me what they were for and when I couldn’t come up with a satisfactory answer he told me “They’re to protect people.” <3

They both got good reports from the dentist. She wants us to start flossing at night, and she said we should start trying to wean them from thumb-sucking. They both still do it pretty casually when they’re tired. The dentist said she couldn’t even tell that Lola still does it, but Max has a very pronounced overbite, probably because he sucks harder. Not a major problem yet, but something we need to start working on if we want to avoid braces.

Bubble Hurricane

by Kayte

The kids didn’t have school on Monday for MLK Day (and they never have school on Fridays) so I tried to keep us busy for the 4-day weekend. We had a playdate with a classmate on Friday, and our NICU-twin-friends came over today for lunch and playtime.

MLK

by Kayte

Max & Lola brought these home from school. I was reading one of the quotes “We can go to school together peacefully.” and asked them what it meant. Max answered: “Martin.”

Snow Sledding

by Kayte

In Southern California; when it rains, it snows. Snow is far superior to sand sledding.

Multiple Multiples

by Kayte

We had our annual holiday party with our NICU friends today. Three sets of twins! Believe it or not, it’s actually getting easier to get a picture of everyone. They kind of understand the concept now and were really excited to take a group photo. There are so many kids they fit best in a 16:9 aspect ratio.
