Kite Flying Day

by Kayte

Lola loves her kite and asks to play with it any time there is even a hint of a breeze.

The Original Five

by Kayte

For the first time in two years the original five NICU grads from 2012 were back together again! Katrina and Jacob came in for the holiday weekend and we had an epic playdate with seven kids under the age of five. It actually wasn’t as crazy as it sounds. After nearly five years I think we’re finally getting the hang of this thing.

Holiday Bash

by Kayte

We had our annual get together with our NICU/twin-friends today. They had fun rearranging the furniture, making pizzas, and running around like crazy. A typical day in Twinland!

Costume Party

by Kayte

This weekend we went to our friends’ annual Halloween party. This year the kids were old enough for activities – cookie decorating, pumpkin painting and canvas painting. We enjoyed a great potluck lunch with a cotton candy machine for dessert. It was very good to see our old friends who we haven’t seen in awhile.

Little Einsteins

by Kayte

Today we went to a birthday party for the younger set of twins from our NICU-friends. The theme was Little Einsteins (a TV show) and the kids enjoyed an entertainer, face painting, pizza and cupcakes. They always enjoy getting together with their friends!

Watermelon Twins

by Kayte

The kids had Friday off school for a 4-day Labor Day holiday weekend so we had our twin-friends over for a play date. It wasn’t as hot as it has been, but it was still warm enough to splash in the kiddie pool and scarf pounds of watermelon. It’s fun to see how the four older twins have become such fast friends over the years – they ask for and about each other and are so excited for our get-togethers.

Splashtopia

by Kayte

This weekend we drove to The Desert to meet some friends for their annual Splashtopia waterpark adventure. We spent three awesome days floating down the lazy river, soaking in the jacuzzi, playing at the beach, and swimming in the pool. The park also had two waterslides, but Max and Lola were just an inch shy of meeting the height requirement. Better luck next year! The kids played hard all day and crashed hard at night. What a fun weekend.

MI Day 4 – Friends Day

by Kayte

On Saturday we met up with two of my best friends from childhood, Michelle and Jeremy, and their respective spouses, Alex and Stefani. We went out for lunch, played at the park, and had a great time just hanging out. Michelle/Alex and Jeremy/Stefani had of course met the kids before, but this was the first time Max & Lola were old enough to meet (and hopefully remember) them in turn.

Twintastic

by Kayte

School’s out for summer and were trying to keep busy. Today we got together with our NICU-twin-friends for board games, artwork and brownie sundaes. As challenging as the last month at home with the kids has been, hanging out with some 2-1/2 year olds sure makes me appreciate my the 4-year-old stage.

They sure have come a long way since our first get-together

Twinsday

by Kayte

We had a busy today today. Max & Lola had swim lessons in the morning, and our fellow NICU-twin-friends came over for a play date in the afternoon. The kids didn’t seem to mind the 90* heat so we sat outside most of the day and ate and played. It was too bad we couldn’t use the pool, but that would have been way too crazy with six kids 4-and-under – we’d need to hire a lifeguard!

Upper Oso

by Kayte

We packed our minivan to the gills and drove out into the wilderness for the kids’ second camping adventure. The packing and set up was a lot easier this year, as the kids were able to wander around and [mostly] keep themselves occupied while we got things in order. Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worse, which in SoCal terms means 90-degree heat. It was a hot, hot day to be outside with no A/C, but we made the best of it with lots of shade and cold drinks. Luckily the campsite was in the bottom of a valley so the sun disappeared behind the mountains fairly early in the evening, leaving us with lots of ambient light and bearable temps.

The kids loved our camping adventure and the whole family is already looking forward to our next trip!

PSJMC NICU Reunion

by Kayte

Today Max and I went to the 1st annual reunion for the St. Joe NICU. We would’ve have taken Lola too, but we didn’t want to bring a contagious kid to an event full of preemies. We had a wonderful time playing with our fellow NICU-twin-grads and visiting with some of the nurses who have undoubtedly had one of the biggest impacts on our lives. It was emotional and inspiring.

Before we went to the event I was explaining to the kids who we were going to see and showing them NICU photos. I realized that it was exactly four years ago today that I first held one of my babies. And the man pictured below was the nurse on duty that day. Love and life come full circle.

Ferraro Fields

by Kayte

It’s Spring Break and I’m making the most of our time off with playdates and visits. Today we met up with our twin-friends for a playground picnic. Lola desperately wanted to fly her kite, and although there wasn’t much of a breeze we did manage to get it up in the air

Strange-Doody

by Kayte

This weekend I went to Michigan for my best friend’s wedding. All. By. Myself. It was the longest I’ve ever been away from the kids since our anniversary overnight last summer. Of course the kids were in great hands with Dad, so I was easily able to relax and enjoy an amazing weekend with old friends.

Bubble Hurricane

by Kayte

The kids didn’t have school on Monday for MLK Day (and they never have school on Fridays) so I tried to keep us busy for the 4-day weekend. We had a playdate with a classmate on Friday, and our NICU-twin-friends came over today for lunch and playtime.

Multiple Multiples

by Kayte

We had our annual holiday party with our NICU friends today. Three sets of twins! Believe it or not, it’s actually getting easier to get a picture of everyone. They kind of understand the concept now and were really excited to take a group photo. There are so many kids they fit best in a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Saddle Up

by Kayte

Today was our annual group birthday party with our NICU friends. This year’s theme was western, and everyone dressed the part. There were cowboy hats, bandanas, sheriff badges, chocolate “gold” nuggets, and ponies for the kids. We ate hot dogs, baked beans and chips for lunch…and of course cake for dessert.

Unfortunately our friends Katrina and Jacob weren’t able to be with us today. They were missed very much and it wasn’t the same without our whole crew.

Poor Lola was so exhausted from school and missed naps that she fell asleep in the swing before the party was even over.

Twins X3

by Kayte

We played hooky from speech therapy today and met our twin friends at our new favorite park. It was a lot more crowded than last time, which made it a little harder to keep track of everyone, but the kids had fun intermingling with all the different groups. Best of all were the long naps everyone (kids, not moms) took when we got home.

Twins Playdate

by Kayte

My twin-mom-friend Michelle found a great park for us to visit where the playground is safely enclosed. It’s hard to take multiples out by ourselves, but today we were able to let the kids run free while we relaxed a little. It was a beautiful day to soak up the sunshine.
