November Roundup

by Kayte

Well I had barely caught up with the October posts before I realized that November is practically over and I’m still a month behind. Here we go again…

Mountain Bike

by Kayte

Continuing our outdoors theme for the weekend, we went for our first bike ride in our new neighborhood. We live in a hilly area now, so pulling a trailer with 50+ pounds of kids is serious business. Brody did great with the kids in tow, and I managed to not tip over while taking photos.

We took a cue from REI this year and spent Black Friday in the great outdoors instead of a store. Not that we usually go shopping on Black Friday (usually it’s sweatpants day), but #OptOutside was extra motivation for us to change out of our PJs and go for a hike. We explored a new trailhead near our house and were pleasantly surprised to find wide trails and rolling hills. The kids were enthusiastic regarding the adventure, but their stamina only lasted about a half mile. I’m sure with a little practice they’ll be able to do the full four-mile loop in no time!

Brody’s side of the family came to LA for what’s becoming our annual Thanksgiving gathering: Nana Bah, and Anna with her parents and brothers. We ate a delicious meal, took a refreshing walk in the neighborhood, and watched da Bears win their game. Food, family and football: lots to be thankful for!

Pumpkin Cheesecake

Lola helped me with Thanksgiving prep today. She did a great job measuring ingredients and counting scoops. Max just helped lick the beaters.

Urgent Care

by Kayte

The kids were playing with Cousin Booker in the backyard today when Max took a hard spill and cut open his chin. Although it wasn’t bleeding too badly, and Max recovered quickly, the cut was very deep. Our pediatrician on-call confirmed that it needed prompt attention, so we found ourselves at an urgent care facility on a Saturday night. They super-glued Max’s chin together, put a couple Steri-Strips over it for good measure, and sent him home good as new. Max even got a souvenir basketball out of the deal.

Little Turkeys

by Kayte

Max and Lola made the cutest Thanksgiving crafts at school this week. Turkey hats, paper-stuffed turkeys and laminated Thanksgiving placemats. I just love school.

Breakfast Cupcake

by Kayte

Since the kids have started school they have dropped their afternoon nap which means they now go to bed super early which means Brody usually does not see them when he gets home from work. So, to celebrate his birthday today, the kids shared a breakfast cupcake with him this morning before he left for work which they both thought was just the best.

Lola came up with the idea to get her dad balloons for his birthday. Max & Lola also made him a card, and this video:

The weather has cooled down lately and I realized that I had no long pants for Lola. She had completely grown out of all her 2T clothing! I was dubious when I pulled out the 3T pants, but when I put them on her the length was perfect.

Her waist, however, is another story. I’m having to take in at least 2-3 inches from all her pants. It leaves a funny little tab in the back*, but at least her pants aren’t falling down.

*I know I could cut and properly alter the pants, but I want to preserve their original form 1) in case she ever grows into the waist or 2) so I can hand them down to friends.

Bumpy Slide

by Kayte

Ga-ram-pa came to the park to play today. He and Max took turns launching off the bumpy slide. Lola found a stop sign!

Grandpa is here to help with some electrical work! And spend time with his grandchildren. Lola has been especially infatuated with him during this trip. She’s been dragging him all over the house chanting “ga-ram-pa” like a three-syllable word.

Max has been heavily influenced by all of the construction work going on at our house.

Castle Park

Another beautiful sunny day spent at the park.

Twirly Slide

by Kayte

We found our new favorite playground in the area. Set in a beautiful park with age-appropriate equipment AND it’s totally fenced in so I can take the kids by myself. Perfect.

The twirly slide was the main attraction of the day.

We packed a picnic lunch and spent the whole afternoon outside.

Hair cut time! I tried to find another kid salon nearer to our new house. This place was okay, but I don’t think we’re going to find anything as cute as our Yellow Balloon. At least no one has hair hanging in their eyes for the time being.

Today I enlisted Nana Bah to help me take the kids to the public library. I love libraries and our family loves reading so I’ve been feeling really guilty that the kids have never been, but the prospect of trying to keep them quiet and still in such a calm environment was daunting. I have to say my fears were not unfounded…even with Nana there to help, it was still a whirlwind trip with the kids running around and screaming talking loudly with excitement. We grabbed a large armful of random books and got out of there quickly. Even though it was stressful, the joy we got later on at home reading the books together made the trip worth it. Hopefully the prospect of new books will be motivation enough to keep the kids a little calmer next time.

Stop Sign

by Kayte

Lola hasn’t taken off her stop sign shirt since Saturday, including at bedtime. I told her she absolutely must change for school today 🙂

October Roundup

by Kayte

No, the  website is not broken! These past two months we have been busy packing, renovating a new house, and moving. With two toddlers along for the ride it’s been complete chaos, to say the least. But things are finally starting to settle down just a little bit and I am determined to update everything from  October. Check back here for more new-old posts.
